Boys Sectional Wrap-up

Following the girls sectional meets on Wednesday were both boys sectional meets on Thursday. AFD had boys competing from 4 different high schools and maintained a dominant presence, advancing 7 divers to the Division 1 District Championships at Cleveland State University.

Picking up right where the Solon girls team left off the Solon boys team, lead by junior Mike Kreft, captured 4 of the top 8 spots at the Solon sectional. Mike finished with a 1st place score of 499.20 making this his third consecutive sectional title. Mike has advanced to the state meet each of the last two years finishing in 2nd place last season. This year he will look to defend his title as the Northeast District Champion.

Placing right behind Mike at the sectional meet was another Solon junior Micah Rembrant. Micah had a strong final round moving from 3rd place at the end of the semi-finals to finish 2nd with a score of 460.65. Micah is seeded 3rd overall at next weeks district meet.

Solon senior Daniel Jacobson remained consistent as he recorded his second highest score score of the season, 448.35, good enough for 4th place. Daniel was runner-up at the Ned Reeb Invitational in Columbus, Ohio and will be making his third trip to the district meet.

Rounding out the Solon qualifiers was Doug Karn. Doug has made significant improvement as the season has progressed, raising his high score to 392.80. Doug's score finished him in 8th place and qualifies him to his second district meet.

In addition to the four Solon divers who advanced to districts, Steve Shillero of Garfield Heights also advanced to the district meet. He finished with a score of 433.65 placing him in 6th place and will carry the 7th seed into this years district meet. Steve was also a state meet finalist last season as a freshman.

Eric Steiger of Hudson was the highest AFD to qualify out of the Akron Sectional. Eric finished 7th with a score of 347.10 and will be moving on to his second district meet. Eric has scored as high as 469.15 this season at the Northeast Ohio Conference Championship Meet. He will be looking to advance to his 1st state meet this year.

Also advancing to his second district meet from Nordonia was junior Sean Whittaker. Sean finished 11th at the Akron Sectional and has scored as high as 346.65 this season. Sean was 20th last year at CSU and will look to improve that place as well as move on to the state meet for the 1st time.

Finishing their high school seasons were Nordonia divers Cameron Williams, David Williams and Scott Danner. Scott advanced to the semi-final round of the sectional meet and nearly missed a district qualifying score, finishing out his first year of diving.
